Admissions

At Beacon AP, we take a careful and individual approach to admissions. We believe that the right placement depends on more than paperwork alone and that it is essential to ensure we can meet need and that Beacon AP is a good fit for the young person.

Placements can be funded via the 0–25 team, mainstream SEN budgets, or EOTAS commissioning. We support SENCos and parents every step of the way.

We will consider home-ed parent funding placements but please contact us to discuss.

Our Provision

Beacon AP is best suited to young people who want to learn but have been unable to access education in mainstream settings. Our provision is individualised and adult-supported, delivered in a small, calm environment. We are not a forest school or sports-based setting by design; instead, we focus on gentle, purposeful learning and consistent trauma-informed relationships with staff, alongside a strong emphasis on life skills and preparation for adulthood, including independence, communication, and understanding the wider world.

Meeting the Young Person

We always aim to meet the young person before any placement is agreed.
We do read and consider the EHCP (where one is in place), but this forms only part of the picture. Meeting the young person allows us to understand their strengths, needs, and readiness to engage, and to decide whether Beacon AP is the right provision for them.

Young people do not need to have an EHCP for us to consider a referral. We are happy to meet families and, where appropriate, support parents and professionals through the EHCP assessment process.

Admissions Process

  1. Initial contact
An enquiry is made by a parent/carer or SENCo via email or phone.

  2. Information review
Where available, we review the EHCP and relevant reports.

  3. Meeting
We meet the young person (and parent/carer where appropriate).

  4. Funding agreement
If the placement is considered suitable:

    • The SENCo submits a request to the 0–25 Team for funding, or

    • For EOTAS arrangements, Devon County Council must agree and commission the provision

  5. Timetable allocation
Once funding is agreed, a personalised timetable is allocated.

Our Commitment

We aim to work collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals. If Beacon AP is not the right fit, we will be open and honest and, where possible, help signpost to alternative support.
