Our Impact: Attendance Transformation at Beacon

Students who join Beacon have spent weeks, months, or even years disengaged from education. Anxiety, unmet needs, and school-related trauma often leave them unable to attend mainstream settings. But once they arrive at Beacon, things start to change.

Below are two real stories (*names changed*) based on verified school attendance data, demonstrating how students begin to reconnect with learning through compassionate, trauma-informed support.

The Difference

These are typical of what happens when students are placed in the right environment, with:

  • Calm, small group settings

  • Staff who understand complex needs

  • Personalised timetables

  • No pressure, just possibility

We meet students where they are, and guide them back into education...at their pace.

*Sylvia's Story: From Withdrawal to Weekly Attendance

Before Beacon (Sept–Oct 2024)
Sylvia was recorded as absent almost every week.

  • Average attendance: 20%

  • Consistently recorded as C2 (non-attendance due to anxiety/mental health)

  • No full weeks of attendance recorded

After joining Beacon (from Nov 2024)
Sylvia's attendance tripled.

  • Immediate increase: 60% attendance from November through July

  • Weekly attendance stabilised, showing regular engagement

  • Some weeks show consistent attendance 4–5 days a week, a major leap from 0–1 days previously

  • Regular contact, emotional regulation support, and tailored learning helped rebuild trust

Ever since joining Beacon, my school life has completely changed. I get help with things and breaks when I need it. I've even managed to do things I didn't know I could do.”
